Drew And Mike To WCSX May Still Happen!

Just talked to another well connected Detroit radio guy who informed me that a Drew and Mike move to WCSX may still happen “if the numbers work.”  Both new shows, Dave and Chuck The Freak and Drew and Mike could..could debut on their new stations NEXT MONDAY!

Drew and Mike obviously would have to take a salary cut to move to “The Senior Circuit.”  Others could be affected too, if WCSX signs Peyton Manning, they would have to make sure everyone else fit under the “cap.”  Obviously I have no idea what the cap is and who makes  what at WCSX.

If Greater Media were to pull this off they would have almost complete domination of men in the morning in Detroit with the exception of Mike and Bill on 97.1.  It would also keep Drew and Mike from going to another radio station and suppressing Dave and Chuck The Freak’s ratings and they try to build their show.

If Drew and Mike are on the air in the morning, it’s a good sign for fans of the show.

Drew And Mike Out?

drew and mikeIf this Channel 4 report is true, Drew and Mike are OUT at WRIF.  Their last show is May 17 according to the report.

I’m betting it is true but I’m not convinced Drew and Mike are toast.

They are still a rating draw, but they are now older and could be a better fit at 94.7 WCSX.

This is actually a smart move by Greater Media.  Sliding Drew and Mike into the morning show on WCSX allows them to stay with their aging audience and gives WCSX a much needed boost in AM Drive.  The new show on WRIF will fit nicely with the younger WRIF audience.

Drew and Mike fans should not worry, the show is far too valuable to just dump, again, this is a brilliant move by Greater Media, the only question now is….where does Ken Calvert end up?  Does it effect Doug Podell?

I’ve also heard rumblings that WCSX or 105.1 could flip to sports with Drew and Mike as the lead show on a new station to compete with 97.1 The Ticket.

97.1 has been so dominant in the ratings and in revenue that there is a belief that a second FM sports station would be successful in a sports happy market like Detroit.

I’ll try to keep you up to speed on this story.
